Full coverage of Event 6, the final men’s and women’s workouts of the 2020 Rogue Invitational (Sunday, June 14). In this unique, fully online competition, Rogue has combined individual live feeds from every competitor's gym, with multi-screen views and a special "Event Tracker" helping put each athlete's performance in context against one another.
Event 6 features a 21-15-9 rep scheme, for time, in the following:
Deadlift: 275 LBS Men / 185 LBS Women
Overhead Squat: 155 LBS Men / 105 LBS Women
Time Cap: 6 minutes
Men’s leader Pat Vellner of Canada and women’s leader Tia-Clair Toomey of Australia both enter the final workout of the weekend with substantial but not insurmountable leads, as the other contenders make their final pushes for a podium spot (albeit it a virtual podium this year). For the men, it’s Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson (Iceland), Noah Ohlsen (USA), and Chandler Smith (USA) all in the running, while for the women, it’s Sara Sigmundsdottir (Iceland), Laura Horvath (Hungary), Kara Saunders (Australia), and Jamie Simmonds (New Zealand) still in the mix. Rogue’s coverage also includes an interview with defending “Fittest Man on Earth” Mat Fraser, and post-event chats with both the men’s and women’s Rogue Invitational champs for 2020.

  • Impressive but what would be more impressive is if the weight was not out of control for the majority of each rep. But hey, that's what the crossfit cult likes to see.

  • I honestly don't think it was programmed perfectly You basically had two Weightlifting Events and one of them counted double. So it was tailored to Tia and Matt. If you program a heavy lift, you could do a deadlift, a powerliting total, a crossfit total or whatever it is. But doing two Snatch Events and one max c&j wasn't good I think.

  • the heats should be switching. the athletes like tia, always getting to go second and see what times to beat give them such an advantage. they should be switching back and forth of which heat goes first since the heats arnt based on rankings

    • The only thing with doing that would be one heat would get more recovery time. Not much perhaps, but a little can make all the difference. Also since they don't know the times of the first heat, there's no point.

    • They clearly states between the womans heats that they dont know anything about the times of the first heat, so theres no reason to switch the heats.

  • Thanks for making this freely available on NOworld Rogue. I haven’t watched it all yet but I will. I am curious if you looked into making it available on Twitch? I think there is more functionality there that might allow people to zoom in/out on your screen in screen features. Sometimes even with good eyesight it was hard to see what an individual athlete was up to. Great work putting a high quality production together and lots of additional expert commentary. The Twitch suggestion is just something that might be able to make it even better.

  • Is it me or did Mertens' deadlifts bounce off the floor way more than the other competitors?

    • Shouldnt be allowed to get away with it. He gains like a minute and a half from it. He still could have won that heat, but as Lucas Parker has always said, these are the type of things that need correcting in judging athlete's form during competitions. All other athletes have similar times, this is too much variance...

    • Yeah. And I am sure Ryan Fischer is pretty pissed off that this guy got away with it. Anyone remember his SoCal Regional 2013 meltdown? He was bouncing a 315lb bar off the floor and got called for it. Cost him a trip to the Games.

      Brendan TomlinsonBrendan Tomlinson5 måneder siden
    • Yea definite bounce and helped by the strong wooden floor. Koski has a similar method

      Crossfit VoyageCrossfit Voyage5 måneder siden
    • I think he just gets more of a benefit from the bounce. He has VERY short limbs and doesn't have to do much to lock out.

    • The guy that wins the first heat has a minute and a half of time advantage over the others becuase of the bouncing... poor form judgement... he should be close to the other times if you take stats into account... he is in too much variance, that is because of the bounce

      Pachanga TropicalPachanga Tropical3 måneder siden
    • @Nathan McFall you seem to misunderstand. crossfit isnt designed to make you fit, or be safe. its designed to funnel money into rich white guys pockets.

    • there is exercise, then there is crossfit. never the twain shall meet.

    • @Dianita Chávez Some of them are bouncing the bar to give them a bit of an advantage. I confess I don't know exactly how much difference it makes to the lift, but it does make it a bit easier to control the bar oddly.

      Casa RiddellCasa Riddell5 måneder siden
    • I think they are starting to use steel plates to eliminate the bounce but I guess logistics limits the ability to tune this event but if everyone is going to bounce that’s why the standards state you can’t bend your arms during any part of the lift or as you no you can cycle the bar to the catch off a good shrug still pretty good show do you agree?
